BATTLE WITH RARE DISEASES
Why the problem is so difficult
In European research and development of treatments for rare diseases, France is the pioneer in adopting a plan dedicated solely to these medical problems. Despite the significant efforts that have been made during last years, current knowledge remains very scarce.

A disease is said to be rare when it affects less than 1 in 2,000 people, but today more than 7,000 rare diseases have already been described and each week new rare diseases are identified.

97%

1/3
of patients live without a name for their disease
In more than 50% of cases, rare diseases develop during childhood, and are estimated to be responsible for more than 30% of infant mortality.

Rare diseases are generally severe, chronic, disabling and often life-threatening.

FONDATION MALADIES RARES
A KEY PLAYER TO FIND TREATMENTS OF TOMORROW
The Foundation is a unique alliance of stakeholders created to promote and support basic and clinical research towards more effective health care for patients affected with rare diseases.

Despite the significant efforts that have been made in France during last years on rare diseases, current knowledge remains very low. This field of research continuously suffers from a lack of coordination between research groups and public and private partners.

RARE STARS IN THE SKY
This year, Fondation maladies rares is highly invested in its mission to fight against incurable diseases. They have delegated part of their ambitious challenge to us, students of the MBA Wine Marketing & Management of the famous school of commerce of INSEEC Bordeaux. We have developed the concept for the Charity Gala Evening and Fine Wine Auction in the wine capital of the world, the beautiful city of Bordeaux. This spring we are going to bring this honorable project into existence.

Inspired by the theme of rarity and preciosity, we created the name Les Etoiles Rares to highlight the importance and rarity of the Gala Dinner. The bright stars of the evening are our honored guests, scientists and researchers, patients affected by the diseases and their relatives, our donors and their beautiful wines, and our sponsors who have helped make this evening outstanding.

The symbol of the Evening is the mythological hero called Ophiuchus, who was celebrated by ancients as a constellation in the night sky. The constellation of Ophiuchus forms the logo for our event. The stellar hero is struggling with a giant snake representing a struggle with disease, which is why Ophiuchus' form is the basis for the symbol of modern medicine.

We encourage you to take a glance at the sky and try to trace this beautiful constellation, although it is not easy to find, the stars are visible to the naked eye.
